"All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
'God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.'
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 5:5-11)
Satan doesn't like it when sin is exposed, when it is brought out into the light. He doesn't like it when those whom God has made holy through the blood of Christ begin to realize they are indeed free. He doesn't like it when these free men and women begin to join forces and come together in fellowship. He doesn't like it when they start down the road to healing.
Scratch that. He hates all those things.
But you know what's cool? God hates Satan. As my friend Joy put it, God absolutely detests the fact that Satan is after us, that he's trying to destroy us.
We may find ourselves feeling especially weak right now, and it may be painful and scary. We are under attack. But we have a God who is so fiercely in love with us and is willing to lay His life down to protect us.
Satan may be running toward us, hurling his spears at us, but our God is running out to meet him, His eyes ablaze -- and I already know who's going to win.
"If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)
Read all of Psalm 91. Breathe it in.
